Commonly asked questions about the CNC-milling machines:
The machine has a bed size of 2440 mm x 1220 mm. The max depth for milling is 60 mm, but if you have a project with this thickness be sure to contact us. How well this works largely depends on your material and project.
Materials the cnc-machine at Fellesverkstedet most commonly cut are wood (mdf/hdf, plywood, solid wood, ...), plastics (acrylic, POM, Corian, PolyCarbonate...), foam (isopor, PUR, expanded pvc, ...) and soft metals (aluminium, brass, copper, ...). However, there are also ways to cut soft steel, carbon-fiber plates, or use a drag-knife to cut fabrics or paper, though these might require more experimentation.
Sure, get in touch with us! We have a lot of suppliers, through whom we can source almost anything. Give us a notice and your materials will be waiting for you when you arrive! We also have a selection of leftovers that are available to use, and of course, if you want to bring your own materials, that's fine as well! Do note that we add a small compensation per sheet you've brought yourself, to cover waste handling.
How much the final price will be largely depends on your project and there's no way we can give a concrete price in advance. However, important to know is that at Fellesverkstedet you only pay the price the machine is actually milling. We don't ask you to pay for the one-to-one guidance you get, which makes it very accessible to get started with the machine. For the latest prices check out our website at https://www.fellesverkstedet.no/pricing. Do note that depending on your project you might need to buy milling bits. We have some free bits in stock that have been donated by previous users, but it's not certain we have the perfect tool (or still with a sharp blade) in stock. Prices of milling bits vary according to size, type and amount of cutting blades which, again, depends on your project.
The machine has a precision of 0.05 mm, BUT there are all kinds of factors that can influence that precision: The milling bit you are using, the material you're cutting and the way you fixed it to the machine, the way you set up your toolpaths, and the speed & direction of cutting.
Get in touch with us and then we can book you in for a pre-production meeting where we go over the details of your project and find a time in the calendar that works with the size of your project. Make sure you have your drawings ready as much as possible before coming. https://www.fellesverkstedet.no/contact
For 2D cutting, preferably as a .dxf (or Rhino-file or Illustrator file), for 3D as a .stl (or Rhino-file, depending on the geometry). More information can be found on this page: CNC file preparation (wiki page)
Most of the time we don't produce for you, however we can also direct you to the right people that can do the work for you.
